SMC Education Program Kicks Off!
The Social Media Club was established with the following mission(s):
1. Expand Media Literacy
2. Share Lessons Learned Among Practitioners
3. Encourage Adoption of Industry Standards
4. Promote Ethical Practices through Discussion and Actions
At SMC Seattle, we understand that while networking is an important part of the social media space, we really need to focus on learning and education in order to work towards the real mission of The Social Media Club. SMC Seattle has had several large events this year that have been really popular – where people have met each other, learned from one another and evolved in the social media scene. While this has been great, a number of people have requested events focused on deeper learning on specific topics. We thought about it, and we did it! It is therefore time to announce the launch of SMCSeattle Ed Series – a local effort to fulfill social media related educational needs in the Seattle area.

WHAT IS “SMCSEA ED SERIES”?
SMCSea Ed Series consists of a series of smaller (less than 50 people) and more focused events around social media education. SMC Seattle will continue to have our largely successful monthly events but will introduce smaller events for those interested in learning more.
SMCSea Ed consists of @thinkmaya (Maya Bisineer) @patrickbyers (Patrick Byers) and YOU. SMCSea Ed is all about bringing social media educators, practitioners, consultants and students together around specific topics about social media. Social media is a vast space spanning several niches and disciplines. Moreover, social media is an ever-evolving discipline all by itself. The only way to keep updated is to keep teaching people what we know about our fields and keep learning from the people who know more about social media in their own fields. SMCSeattle Ed has a goal to do just that – conduct learning events such as presentations, discussion groups, panels, tutorials and hands-on workshops to make that possible. Over time, we have a goal of sharing everything that is taught and everything we learn through these events right here, on this blog!
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
There are a number of ways in which YOU can get involved with SMCSeattle Education. Here are a few ideas –
1. First and foremost, please complete this very brief survey for us
2. If you are in the social media space and want to share what you know, what you have learned and so on, be sure to email education@smcseattle.com with your name, contact information, area of expertise and what you would like to host for SMCSea Education
3. If you want to learn about social media, be sure to email education@smcseattle.com with your name, contact information, area of expertise and what you would like to learn from others at SMCSeattle. You may be as broad or as specific as you like!
4. If you would like to share some powerpoints or educational material related to social media, be sure to email us at education@smcseattle.com. We would LOVE to share your material and we will whenever appropriate (on the blog, in the events etc). We WILL give you credit for your work, but please remember that SMCSeattle is about education first and then YOU 
5. Spread the word. Come join us at our events, share and learn!
Our very first session is called Social Media For Social Good – An Introduction. We are targeting the last week of July. It is turning out to be a great session, so be sure to come by and participate if you are anyone that works in the non-profit space. We will try to have a blog post before and after every event, so be sure to check out the blog for updates.
