I asked Brian Rauschenbach to share some of his thoughts on why folks should attend the conference, so read on for his thoughts. Oh, and go register now!
By Brian Rauschenbach, Seattle Interactive Conference
We are very pleased to extend a special invitation for all SMC members to join us for the first annual Seattle Interactive Conference, a major two-day event set for November 2-3 celebrating the convergence of online technology, creativity, and emerging trends in one of the world’s most innovative cities. SIC brings together entrepreneurs, developers and online business professionals from throughout the US and beyond for a powerful combination of in-depth presentations, networking opportunities, and uniquely Seattle social events.
An event of this nature is long overdue for the Pacific Northwest and we are very happy to extend a great discount offer for all SMC members to get $100 off the price of registration when you use the code smc2011. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to explore disruptive technologies and business models from industry thought leaders and peers in areas ranging from online commerce and social media to gaming, interactive advertising, entertainment, and much more.
The speaker line-up is packed with local and national interactive industry veterans, including some SMC members like Shauna Causey of Nordstrom, Jonathon Colman of REI, Kevin O’Reily of Spring Creek Group, Erica May of Pop Cap Games, Blake Cahill of Banyan Branch and Sean O’Driscoll of Ant’s Eye View, among others.
We have also planned some great after-parties each night, starting with the pre-event ‘Battle of the Geek Bands’ contest and party set for the evening of November 1. Held at Showbox SoDo, the November 1 pre-SIC party also features an exclusive set performed by The Presidents of the United States of America. The evening of November 2 will find a digital vs analog DJ set with FOURCOLORZACK vs. DJ NEIGHT1000, held at the Showbox Market, with Shabazz Palaces performing, as well. Entrance to these events is free for all SIC attendees.
We’ll be announcing some final additions to the event’s overall agenda and speaker roster, as well as some more closing party artists soon. Overall, SIC is shaping up to bring our region the world-class technology event it deserves — from professional, networking, and social standpoints. So, go register now and don’t forget to use the code smc2011! See you in November.
And, as a special treat, we want to offer one of you a FREE pass. Simply leave a comment below saying which speaker you are looking to hearing from the most and you’ll be eligible to win. Simple!

Really looking forward to all the speakers; but if forced to pick one… not many chances in life to see Sir Mix-a-lot talking media technology.
I’m really interested in seeing Scott Macklin from the Digital Communications Program at UW. I’ve heard a lot of great things about that program-and would love to know more about how they are incorporating interaction design and social media into their curriculum to empower tomorrow’s leaders.
Erica May of from Pop Cap Games. I recently spoke with her through social media and she was very charming and gave me even more excitement on how approachable and attentive these speakers are to their interactive audience.
Shauna Causey – Nordstrom has really enhanced their social media presence lately.
I’m really excited to see Kevin O’Reily. I really like hearing from the trenches of successful consulting groups in social media and how they approach resolving the ghost-writing nature of content/community development and determining and presenting interpretations on ROI!
Jason Toon from Woot.com has my attention. As a copy writer I’m hoping his talk will share insights for creating sticky copy that stands out above the noise.
I’m looking forward to hearing Charl Lee-Pearce speak the most and learning of her transition from many years of working at Microsoft and how she utilizes that experience at HTC.
I’m looking forward to quite a few of the speakers, but Shehryar Khan and Curtis Kopf speaking on Mobile Innovation: Creating First Class Experiences is of particular interest. Can’t wait!!!
I want a ticket to SIC like Stephen Colbert wants apple products:

Seriously, I’d love to be able to attend. I’ve made lots of great friends in Seattle, and this is a great opportunity to catch up with a lot of them.
Would love to attend this event!
Looking forward to seeing you all there! I love going to SMC events and see SIC as being the next evolution of our community. Brian’s put together an awesome show… I’m stunned by the caliber of folks he’s got waiting to share their knowledge with you and learn from your experience.
See you there!
I’ve already registered for the conference
However, I’d love to give our junior art director intern a free ticket so that he could hear Dan Gebler, POP’s UX design wizard, as well as all of the other innovative speakers.
Thanks and fingers crossed,
Janet
Kevin O’Reily. I like what SCG is doing.
I found this link by going to @shauncausey’s page in search of something to RT! The conference looks fantastic and I love that it has incorporated @ChrisPirillo’s Gnomedex.
Like others have said … it’s so hard to choose just one! What I like most is the mix of speakers – users, designers, trainers, etc. There are also names we’ve heard of (Yelp, Urbanspoon, Nordstrom) and lots of names we haven’t heard of before, which means lots of learning! I guess I’m most interested in hearing from Jonathon Colman of REI, simply because it combines one of my favorite places (REI) with one of my passions (interactivity/social media). I wish there were less private corporation and more public entity speakers.
I’m excited to get a chance to attend and see Chris Pirillo’s Gnomedex along with the rest of SIC.
Honestly, Andrew Corey, because KEXP has a damn brilliant playlist and music moves ideas. Followed by Tim Bierman, Sir Mix-A-Lot (!) and the World Bank lady.
With the glut of cupcake shops springing up around the city and the country, I can’t wait to hear Jennifer Shea share how she stays ahead of the cupcake-shop pack, and just how she gets those chocolate graham cracker cupcakes into everyone from Martha to the masses.
Shauna Causey of Nordstrom
I’m really excited to see Shauna Causey of Nordstrom. Nordstrom’s social media seems to be on fire lately! Their social presence is growing and it’s great to see a company who knows how to run their social media. It’s also great to see a strong woman leader, it’s so inspirational!
Would love to go, fingers crossed!
I’d love to hear Jonathan Colman from REI speak.
I’d like to hear Karen Clark Cole from Blink’s talk, “User Experience is not a buzzword anymore.” Cuz that’s what it’s all about – fast, slow or SoLoMo!
Would love to go to SIC and hear Blake Cahill of Banyan Branch. I’ve some prototype interactive computer gaming equipment that I’d like to demonstrate.
Super psyched for Jonathon Colman from REI. The cooperation between different outdoor companies is unheard of in the corporate world, and REI still always manages to impress.
This is gonna be a great event! How often do you get to see Sir Mix-A-Lot and Blake Cahill in the same place? Looking forward to the sessions on social media and display advertising.
The Social Media Panel presented by Banyan Branch – It’s hard to choose just one!
Most def need to see Josh Fruhlinger to tell the Engadget story. Wow, 20 million users, and they have serious capabilities to share in building not just brand, but in creating and sustaining online trust in media voice and content. See you There!! -Mike
Mad Women panel! Who doesn’t need a little girl power inspiration?
As a current UW student in Interaction Design, I’d be incredibly excited to see Dan Gebler, lord of POP UX, speaking on how to best begin interaction design projects and on the expanding roles of interaction design. I’ve been to POP before and they have always wowed me. I’d love to see Dan really delve into what it means to do great UX.
I’d love to see Shauna Causey, Blake Cahill as they always kick out incredible knowledge…but have to admit, I’d like to see Sir-Mix-A-Lot droppin’ some info.
I really want to hear tips and stories from Shauna Causey. I’ve followed her for a year, and. I am looking forward to meet her in person
I am most excited for Rand Fishkin’s talk. The job he has done to grow SEOMoz as a company is remarkable and inspiring.
Looking forward to hearing Karolina Sobecka talk about UX and interactivity in public spaces.
Great line-up! If I have to choose one it would be Kevin O’Reily of Spring Creek Group,
Looking forward to seeing Shauna Causey
I am most looking forward to Jamie Monberg’s presentation, Interactive Environments: from URL to IRL.
Shauna Causey from Nordstrom, It’s clear how much effort she puts into finding engaging and on-trend content.
Sir Mix-a-Lot for sure! He is smarter than people realize and never fails to be entertaining.
Shauna Causey and, of course, Sir Mix-a-lot!
Shauna Causey is brilliant to listen to, and I’d also love to hear Sir Mix-a-Lot – that’s a rare opportunity.
Esmee Williams from Allrecipes.com since I am a foodie and would love to know more on how they will tackle the growing future within mobile applications and interactivity.
Thank you so much everybody for all of your comments. The official commenting period has ended and our winner will be notified shortly. THANK YOU!
I’m interested in hearing Gerber from Pop. Thanks!
As a burgeoning Social Media account manager, I’d love to see Sean O’Driscoll’s presentation on basic practices and meaningful steps toward building a community of users.
{I want to start to do portraits and wedding photography outside because I like to take photos outside rather than indoors. What equipment would I need to buy so I can do that? Currently I only have a canon t1i and the kit lens.
Should I shadow someone to learn?
|I am planning to buy a camera for wedding photography. Please suggest me one which is suitable for wedding photography and at the same time not too expensive. Thanks for your time.
|I would consider myself a fairly serious amateur photographer and have mainly shot landscapes. My friend saw some photos that I had taken and asked if I could take her wedding pictures. I told her that I was in no way a professional and that I could not guarantee the “perfect” wedding portraits. She said that she knew that and wanted me to take them anyway. Now I am wondering what type of lighting and lenses would best suit wedding photography. I can probably think of some things but I just thought I would ask so that I don’t miss anything that would make my pictures better than they would be otherwise. Thank you for your help.
|I’m a wedding photographer. I’m interested in getting a magazine with wedding photography as its main subject.
|I have a 12MP dslr, a GN58 flash gun, a tripod and a reflector. I’m thinking of focusing on wedding photography business. Thank you so much for your ideas!
|This has been a question that I have been researching for quite some time, What kind of lens do I need to satisfy a client for a wedding photography event. What’s the difference if I choose from Sigma or Nikkor Lens? (As the Sigma lens’ are a lot cheaper.)

|I started a small wedding photography business. I have placed business cards in local bridal shops. but I can’t seem to generate any customers at this time. No one is calling, I can’t afford the $1,000 -$1600 to enter bridal shows. I know word of mouth is the best way but when you don’t have a customer base what do you do? Please help
1.I have been in business for two years.
2. I have shot 9 weddings
3. I have all the things you need to conduct business ie. lic, samples, etc.
|I am expanding my wedding photography business http://www.andrei-photo.com.
What would be the best way to reach people ? I heard Yellow pages don’t work anymore. Some suggested to put Ad on Google. What is your experience?
|Do you email or phone wedding photography companies and ask if they need assistants ? or do you start of with simple studio work.
So far I have been building my portfolio with freelance stuff and nightclub photography. And I have taken pictures of 1 wedding, indoor, but very small
Are there other options then looking out for gigs on craigslist ?
